Orchard in Full Bloom

Original oil - 5" x 7"
I was nearly "blinded" by this view of a cherry orchard in full bloom against a brilliant blue sky and lanes of dandelions arrayed in golden glory.

Landmark Barn no.3 (detail)

Original oil - 12" x 24" - collection of the artist - This barn has started to crumble and the entire right side has come down now. A sad sight indeed as more of the history of Old Mission Peninsula is lost.

Dance of the Tulips

Original Oil - 10" x 20" - I think everyone must be ready for the Death of Winter! There is nothing like the bold color of tulips to lift the heart in anticipation of warm spring days not far ahead.

"The trees of the field shall clap their hands..."

Original Oil - 24" x 36" - This oil was inspired by a passage in Isaiah 55 which begins with ... " you shall go out with joy"... This line of heavily pruned trees I discovered in Lelanau County struck me with the joyful way their limbs lifted to the sky with such beautiful symmetry.

The painting was recently awarded 3rd Place in the Lowell 23rd Annual West Michigan Regional Competition. The show opens February 17 and runs through April 11, 2009. The juror Mark Mehaffey, a nationally recognized watercolorist from Lansing will present his thoughts about the show at the Artist Reception, March 1, 2 - 4pm.
